On the 11th of January 2020, Deputies of the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to 2800 block of Cordova Road for a report of a theft.  When they arrived they were told that a man who was later identified as William "Trey" Schmidt had entered the office of the sports complex.  Once inside, Schmidt, without the knowledge or consent of the owners took cash amounting to just under $2,000.  Schmidt was seen and identified on the video surveillance at the complex.   Deputies conducted their investigation of the theft, and were able to positively identify Schmidt as well as determine that he was still in the Seguin area.

Schmidt was located in Seguin near the McDonalds on Court Street by one of the complainants who informed the responding deputies.  Deputies arrived in the area and took Schmidt into custody without incident for the theft.  Once arrested Schmidt confessed to the deputies that he had taken the money, but had not spent any of it before he had been arrested.  All the money was recovered by Deputies and has been returned to the rightful owners.  William "Trey" Schmidt remains in custody on a $4,000 bond as of the date of this press release.  He has been charged with Theft of Property over $750 but under $2,500.
