Stolen Vehicle and Human Smuggling

On February 18, 2020, the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office was conducting surveillance and interdiction for the prevention of Auto Theft. Auto Theft Investigators observed a 2007 Maroon Chevrolet Silverado which was reported stolen out of Portland, Texas. Sheriff's Office Auto Theft Investigators attempted to initiate traffic on the stolen Silverado at the 622 mile marker while heading east bound. The stolen vehicle accelerated to speeds of more than 100 miles per hour in an attempt to evade. The stolen vehicle evaded for approximately 30 miles as the pursuit was joined by Gonzales County Sheriff's Office, Lulling Police Department, Waelder Police Department and Gonzales County Constables. During the pursuit the stolen vehicle struck an embankment on the roadway which disabled the vehicle, allowing pursuing officers to safely take custody of the stolen vehicles occupants. The driver was found to a Felon from the Houston, Texas area. The front passenger was found to be the driver's pregnant girlfriend. The other two passengers were identified as being from Nicaragua and Mexico. Gonzales County Sheriff's Office has taken lead on the investigation. The driver was subsequently arrested for Evading Arrest with a vehicle and Human Smuggling.
