Concealed Heroin Found and Two Arrests

On 6/6/2020,at approximately 12:00 pm,  Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office K9 Corporal Crawford located 14.5 LBS of Heroin on a traffic stop resulting in the arrest of two suspects, 50 years old Cesar Mata  and his spouse 46 years old Angelica Mata of Laredo, Texas. On 6/6/2020 Corporal Crawford and his K9 Partner "Eddie" initiated a traffic stop at the 601 Mile Marker of IH-10 after observing a 2018 Dodge Journey commit traffic offenses. The vehicle was occupied by a married couple and their teenage son.  While interviewing the occupants during the traffic stop Corporal Crawford became suspicious and requested consent to search their vehicle. After receiving consent to search the vehicle, Corporal Crawford subsequently located a large quantity of heroin concealed in a spare battery.  After dismantling the battery, Corporal Crawford located 14.5 Lbs. of heroin. The Guadalupe County Narcotics Unit responded to assist in the investigation. After further investigation it was learned the heroin was being smuggled from Laredo, Texas to Houston, Texas. Both Cesar Mata and Angelica Mata were arrested and booked into the Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center on Charges of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 over 400 Grams. Their teenage son was not arrested and was released.

The Guadalupe County Narcotics Unit is comprised of Narcotics Investigators from the Sheriff's Office, Seguin PD Special Crimes Detectives, and Cibolo PD Narcotics Detectives.
