The Criminal Investigations Division comprises two bureaus. A Captain commands the Division, and each bureau is supervised by a Lieutenant and multiple Sergeants. Each bureau is responsible for various types of crimes and areas of specialization.
The Criminal Investigations Bureau involves the following:
- Auto theft
- Crimes Against Persons
- Crimes Against Property
- Cold Case Investigations
The Special Investigations Bureau involves the following:
- Narcotics
- Fugitive Apprehension
- Internet Crimes Against Children
- Cyber / Fraud
- Evidence & Property
The primary duties of an investigator are:
- Conduct a complete and thorough investigation
- Manage caseload efficiently
- Coordinate investigations with numerous other agencies, i.e., federal, state, and local law enforcement.
- Obtain search and arrest warrants
- Interview suspects, witnesses, victims, etc.
- Conduct surveillance
- Crime scene investigation
- Prepare cases for prosecution.
- Rotate weekly on-call after-hours duty.
Investigators also have other duties, such as conducting background investigations for applicants. Investigators are also part of the Guadalupe County Children's Advocacy Center's multi-disciplinary team.
CID is responsible for the Property & Evidence unit, which maintains strict measures for the receipt, handling, security, preservation, and disposition of all property.
CID is responsible for the Sex Offender Registration Program and the investigation of sex offenders who fail to comply with their requirements.
The Division has four civilian support personnel: one clerk, two crime analysts, a crime scene technician, and one evidence clerk.

Inspections will take place in the north parking lot. Look for signs and cones and form one line.
Who Can Participate?
Guadalupe County residents
Residents of counties without an Auto Theft Investigator
Proof of residency required:
Driver's license, ID card, or utility bill with your name and address.
No proof = No inspection.
What to Bring
All available documents for the vehicle or trailer being inspected.
