Telecommunications Operator (Dispatcher)

Department: Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office
Status: Full-Time
Salary: Effective October 1, 2024 - Uncertified $25.07 hourly & Certified $26.83 hourly
Location: SO, 2617 N. Guadalupe St. Seguin, TX 78155

This position ensures efficient, effective handling of police calls coming in either by telephone or two-way radio and obtains and shares needed information via Teletype equipment.

This position reports to the Dispatch Supervisor and the Captain. This is a non-supervisory position that works closely by telephone, radio, Teletype, or in person with other employees of the Sheriff's Department, other police departments, and law enforcement agencies, and the general public.

Starting salary will be $25.07 per hour. Upon certification, the salary will increase to $26.83 per hour. Benefits include Medical Insurance, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave and retirement account, $20,000 Life Insurance Policy and Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, ability to handle stressful situations, have telephone, typing, computer data entry and multi-tasking skills. Knowledge in radio and teletype duties preferred. Essential Duties* Operates two-way radios and Teletype; Receives and records incoming calls on both the telephone and two-way radio, evaluates calls, and directs calls to appropriate staff, officers, and/or agencies; Monitors radio frequencies of law enforcement, fire and ambulance personnel; Dispatches appropriate units for emergencies; Enters stolen property, missing persons, runaway reports, etc. into computer and performs computer checks of same; Enters information into Texas and National Crime Information computer systems, and validates information against printed reports; Maintains various files and records in an up-to-date manner; Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Adult Detention Officer

Department: Adult Detention Center
Status: Full-Time
Salary: Effective October 1, 2024 - Uncertified $26.62 hourly & Certified $27.85 hourly
Location: Adult Detention Center, 2617 N. Guadalupe St., Seguin, TX 78155

This position is responsible for keeping the county jail secure, processes new inmates, effectively monitors inmates' activities and visitors, and maintains necessary records. This position is responsible for the care and custody of all inmates in accordance with Policy and Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

This position reports to the Corporal and Sergeant. This position directs the inmates. This position has frequent contact with co-workers, inmates, attorneys, representatives of churches, other law enforcement officials, and the general public.

Effective October 1, 2024 starting hourly pay for new Uncertified Detention Officers is $26.62 hourly and for TCOLE Certified Detention Officers it is $27.85 hourly.

Earn up to two weeks paid vacation after one year which increases with tenure at the department along with 11 paid holidays, paid sick time can be used after 60 day waiting period, longevity pay, paid employee medical insurance after sixty days, life insurance and county contribution of 2:1 into TCDRS at time of retirement.

Certification Pay:

  • Intermediate License: $520.00 Yearly
  • Advanced License: $1,040.00 Yearly
  • Masters License: $2,080.00 Yearly
  • S.E.R.T. Certification: $2080.00 Yearly

The Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center offers career advancement as well as other opportunities to be involved in. These include the following: Courthouse Security, Transports, Hospital Duty, Mental Health Officer, Special Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.), Detention Training Officer and Gang Unit.

Physical requirements are as follows:

  • 12 - push-ups in 1 minute
  • 22 - sit-ups in 1 minute
  • 160lb dummy drag with a partner while wearing a SCBA and blacked out mask in 5 minutes

Must have a High School Diploma or GED and have no criminal record above a Class B within the last ten years. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Preferably some jail experience and you must have a current Texas Driver License.

Patrol Deputy Sheriff

Department: Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office
Status: Full Time
Salary: Effective October 1, 2024 -$32.14 hourly
Location: SO, 2617 N. Guadalupe St. Seguin, TX 78155

This position patrols roads in the county, generally be vehicle, to prevent crime and enforce laws and regulations; responds to emergency calls and routine complaints and takes appropriate action; and prepares and maintains records. 

This position reports to the Sergeant of Patrol or the Corporal of Patrol in the Sergeants absence. This is a non-supervisory position that has frequent contact with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, other local officials, community groups and organizations, the media, and the general public.

Essential job duties include:

  • Keeps record of activities and makes reports concerning crimes, complaints, accidents and investigations
  • Gathers and labels evidence, takes photographs and fingerprints, guards and transports prisoners and testifies in court
  • Questions witnesses and suspects and takes statements and depositions
  • Issues traffic citations, pursues and apprehends suspects and makes arrests

The Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office located in Seguin, Texas offers a competitive salary comparable to surrounding agencies. Effective October 1, 2024 starting hourly pay for new patrol deputies is $32.14

Earn up to two weeks paid vacation after one year which increases with tenure at the department along with paid holidays, sick time can be used after 60 day waiting period, longevity pay, paid employee medical insurance after sixty days, life insurance and county contribution of 2:1 into TCDRS at time of retirement. Take home vehicle if you live within 25 miles from the Sheriff's Office.

Certification Pay:

  • Intermediate License: $650.00 Yearly
  • Advanced License: $1,300.00 Yearly
  • Masters License: $2,600.00 Yearly

The Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office offers many paths of career advancement and divisions that one day you could be part of.
